I'm a big believer that there is meaning behind all good design. Design inspired by a special place, a beautiful picture or even a story are some of my favorite ways to create a space infused with meaning.
As I was thinking about my design process and places that inspire me this week, I couldn't help but think about Moab, Utah. Moab is where Andrew and I met working as river guides and it's where we've made some of our closest friends and greatest memories. People travel from all over the world to visit Moab to experience the red rock, desert flora and the muddy Colorado River. The desert is an amazing place!
So, what better place to use as inspiration for a living room design board?! I began by gathering images of Moab that I found inspiring and used those to help me create a desert inspired design.
I used these images to guide my furniture selections, color palette and the textures used in the space. Doing so gives meaning to each piece and makes the design process way easier! When you have a purpose behind your design, you've given yourself a starting point to base all your decisions from. I'm telling you, it really does make it easier!
Who wants to live in this space besides me? I mean, those chairs! I'm also loving the large cactus and wouldn't mind seeing more of them around. Don't get me wrong, I love the popular fiddle-leaf fig, but variety is nice.
What are some places you'd use as inspiration for your home?
